How long have you been working out?
I started using kettlebells at home about 6 years ago and added running to my routine a couple of years later. I’ve been going to Embody for about a year now, which is when I started to get serious about working out.
Why did you start working out at Embody Fitness?
My wife and I were getting bored with our individual, at-home routines and wanted to try new things. We also wanted to find ways to exercise together. Embody was perfect for us because we could get couples training close to our house in a cozy, quiet gym.
What keeps you coming back?
I like that Embody is a smaller, laid-back space. It’s the only gym I’ve ever felt comfortable in. I also really value the time I get with Lindsay and Josh. They each have their own style of training, which keeps me challenged and always learning something new.
How has working out changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness?
Growing up, I was overweight and not good at sports. I’ve always had negative emotions associated with physical activity. It wasn’t until I was in my 40’s that I finally decided to do something about my poor health. At 48 I can honestly say I’m the best version of myself so-far, and exercise is a huge reason for it. Combined with clean eating, working out helps regulate my mood, it gives me mental clarity, and helps me sleep. I’ve never been healthier, stronger, or happier.
Is there something you have done here that you never thought you could do?
Just about all of it! But in particular, I’ll never forget the day I bench pressed 200 pounds.
What motivates/inspires you?
My dad died from his third heart attack in his forties, and a lot of people in my extended family have some combination of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and weight issues. I really need to stay on top of my health because my genetics aren’t doing me any favors. Plus, I love hanging out with my wife! She’s my best friend and I want to do everything I can to maximize our time together.
What goals have you achieved at Embody Fitness so far?
I’ve lost almost 10 pounds since the beginning of the year, my BMI and body fat % are both in normal ranges, and my muscle % in the high range.
Any advice for new members?
It takes time to change your body, so be patient with yourself and have fun.
